Middle East/North Africa (MENA) practice was named "Middle East Team of the Year" at The Lawyer Awards annual ceremony held on June 22 in London. The firm was also awarded second place for "International Law Firm of the Year."
The Lawyer Awards recognize excellence in the profession, and this year received its largest number of entries. The awards are judged by a senior advisory panel comprising in-house counsel, lawyers, and media figures and are supplemented by The Lawyer's own interviews with clients and lawyers.
The award for “Middle East Team of the Year” acknowledges Weil's highly successful entry into the MENA region last year, quickly followed by leading no fewer than three of the region’s most significant transactions in 2009: the General Electric/Mubadala joint venture; the merger of Showtime Arabia and Orbit (also awarded Deal of the Year by
The Brief magazine in 2009); and the restructuring of Almatis for Dubai International Capital.
The firm’s initiatives in the Middle East are led by
Joe Tortorici in Dubai, who is Managing Partner of the Middle East practice. London/Dubai partner
Mark Soundy collected the award.
