Valerie Wicks is an associate in the Employment Litigation practice group. She has worked on a wide range of matters in both federal and state courts, including contract/tort claims, non-compete litigations, ADA claims, and ERISA class actions, and has conducted employment-related diligence on a number of corporate transactions.
Ms. Wicks worked on the team that won a summary judgment motion on behalf of UnitedHealth Group in a nationwide ERISA putative class action brought by a physical therapy provider who alleged claims for benefits and breach of fiduciary duties. She has also been involved in defending American International Group, Inc. (AIG) and certain current and former officers and directors in an ERISA class action related to investments made in AIG’s 401k plan during the financial crisis, and has participated in the defense of Alliant Insurance Services, Inc. in several restrictive covenant litigations.
Ms. Wicks has also worked on a variety of pro bono matters, including a housing-related matter wherein Weil secured the restoration of Section 8 housing vouchers for a disabled senior citizen, and has provided counseling to a non-profit seeking to implement new employee policies.
Ms. Wicks received her B.A., summa cum laude, from Bates College and her law degree, cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School.
