Sunny Thompson is an associate in the Litigation Department of the firm’s Washington, DC office and a member of the firm’s Complex Commercial Litigation practice group, as well as the Financial Regulatory Reform Working Group. Ms. Thompson focuses her practice on commercial, banking, and structured finance litigation, particularly cases involving complex financial transactions and derivatives. Ms. Thompson routinely represents clients in bankruptcy-related matters including adversary proceedings, plan confirmation, and other contested matters.
Ms. Thompson graduated magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University in 2004 with a BA in Political Science and Spanish. While at Vanderbilt, Ms. Thompson studied abroad in Florence, Italy and Madrid, Spain. In 2008 Ms. Thompson obtained her JD, magna cum laude, from Southern Methodist University and was admitted into the Order of the Coif. During law school Ms. Thompson served as the Associate Managing Editor of the SMU Law Review and spent a summer in Guanajuato, Mexico studying Mexican business and constitutional law. She also participated in the SMU Criminal Justice clinic where she first-chaired two jury trials in DWI cases, and interned at the Dallas County Public Defender's office. Ms. Thompson is fluent in Spanish.
Ms. Thompson is a member of the District of Columbia and Texas Bars and is admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Texas and the District of Columbia. She has been named a 2013 Rising Star in business litigation by DC Super Lawyers.
