Our Practice

With more than 40 lawyers and over 15 years of history to build on in the Czech Republic, Weil, Gotshal consistently delivers legal services to clients to the highest international standards, concentrating particularly on complex corporate and financial transactions as well as regulatory and dispute resolution matters.

Our clients in the Czech Republic include international, as well as major Czech companies and banks. In 2007 and 2008 we were acting for ČEZ, incumbent Czech electricity producer and distributor, in its joint ventures with MOL, largest Hungarian gas and oil company, and Akkok/Akenerji, an important players on Turkish electricity market, and in acquisition of Fantanele and Cogealac 600 MW wind farms in Romania. We also represented Unipetrol in squeeze-out of Paramo, Evraz Vitkovice Steel in its acquisition of Nikom, a large Czech company active in metallurgical and foundry industry, Telefónica O2 Czech Republic in its acquisition of Deltax and Czech Railways in connection with its sale of railway operation business.

We regularly advise Czech national and municipal governments and public institutions. In 2007 and 2008 we were acting for Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Transport in connection with the privatization transformation of Prague Airport and in airport connection PPP project, Highways Directorate of the Czech Republic in EUR 1 billion D3 motorway PPP project and truck centers PPP project, as well as key multi-billion public procurement tenders for construction of large parts of Czech highway system, Czech Railway Administration in connection with EUR 1.3 billion railway maintenance outsourcing project, Regional Government of Usti nad Labem in connection with public service obligation in bus transport systems, City of Prague and Waterways Directorate.

We also assisted Czech Airlines in the sale & leaseback of their medium haul Boeing aircraft and acquisition of new Airbus medium haul aircraft and related financing, ČEZ in connection with EUR 600 million club loan, the fourth largest financing transaction in the Czech Republic, and Prague Airport Authority in restructuring of CZK 9 billion loan from European Investment Bank.

We regularly represent both Czech and international clients in litigation and international arbitrations as well as in regulatory matters, particularly competition/antitrust. In 2007 and 2008 we were acting in regulatory and dispute resolution matters for the Government of the Czech Republic, GE Money Bank, EVRAZ Vitkovice Steel, Telefónica O2 Czech Republic, Česká spořitelna Bank/Brokerjet, ČEZ, Unipetrol, Czech Airlines or Prague Airport Authority.
