Piotr Tomaszewski is a US-qualified attorney, a partner in Weil’s corporate department and the head of the Warsaw office’s private equity practice.
After graduating from the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw in 1991 and receiving an LL.M. degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 1994, Piotr was admitted to the Bar Association of the State of New York in 1996. Prior to joining Weil’s Warsaw office in 1997, he worked at Weil’s New York office and other international law firms in Chicago and in Paris. While working abroad, in addition to being regularly involved in M&A transactions, he also worked on various investment and financial projects in Central and Eastern Europe.
Currently he focuses on M&A and private equity transactions, primarily with a cross-border component. Piotr most frequently represents foreign investors who carry out business in Poland and in the CEE region.
The prestigious legal ranking publication Chambers & Partners has regularly listed him as one of the leading corporate/M&A and private equity specialists. According to one report, “Practice head Piotr Tomaszewski is ‘great to work with and customer focused,’ say sources.” PLC Which Lawyer? also regularly acknowledges his private equity / venture capital excellence. In a recent edition Piotr Tomaszewski was named as a recommended lawyer for private equity / venture capital in Poland. Several consecutive editions of Expert Guides, another prestigious legal ranking publication, have identified him as an expert in M&A and private equity deals. The Legal 500 recommends Piotr for M&A and for energy and natural resources projects. In 2011 IFLR 1000 ranked him as a leading lawyer for M&A.
Piotr has authored and co-authored articles in legal periodicals and journals such as “The International Lawyer,” “CCG Doing Business in Eastern Europe,” “International Company and Commercial Law Review” and the Polish “Przeglad Prawa Handlowego.”
He is fluent in English.
