Before joining Weil in 2016, Will Hay was the general counsel at Baring Private Equity Asia for seven years, during which he built the first in-house legal team for the firm. With more than 30 years of experience in Asia, Mr. Hay is respected for providing creative and effective solutions for legal and business matters across the region. He has been recognized as outstanding Asia in-house counsel by IFLR, Asia Law & Business, and The Asian Lawyer. The Financial Times recognized him as one of the top 10 innovative lawyers in Asia and The American Lawyer has recognized him for the top M&A deal in China. His unusually eclectic career has seen him occupy a variety of roles across Asia and the United States. He previously served as Asia general counsel for Colony Capital and GE Capital.
At Baring, Mr. Hay was responsible for over 40 investments totaling more than $5 billion in equity value in 10 Asian countries as well as Europe and North America, and in industries including manufacturing, financial services, corporate services, consumer services, education, resources and real estate.
Before joining Baring, Mr. Hay had extensive experience in real estate finance and operations, including distressed investments, across Asia with Colony Capital. He also completed more than 30 financial services transactions for GE Capital in Asia.
