Ed Gander, head of Weil's Private Funds Group in London, is quoted by
Legal Week in an article discussing the recent expansion of US law firms, including Weil, into the private funds practice area in London.
Gander, who moved to Weil from Clifford Chance, noted that market shifts were driving the shift by US firms. "The ever increasing globalisation of the private funds market means that it is now extremely difficult to advise private fund managers effectively unless you have specialist funds expertise in the key manager/investor hubs of the US, Europe and Asia. For us, Weil Gotshal offered by far the best platform in this market, as it is already tier one for fund formation in the US and Asia and also for private equity transactions, both globally and in London. We see all these recent partner moves to other US firms as bearing out our own strategy."
