International law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges, LLP today announced that it has been recognized as a top law firm by the career intelligence company Vault. Weil is the only firm in the country to secure a top ten spot in three key categories: most prestigious, best law firm to work for, and best law firm for diversity.
In the survey of more than 15,000 attorneys at 166 law firms in the United States, Weil is the 7th most prestigious, 3rd best to work for overall, and 5th best firm for diversity.
"We are honored to be recognized as one of the top law firms in the country," said Executive Partner Barry Wolf. "These rankings are particularly gratifying given that they reflect the views of our peers and our associates. The results are a true testament to our long-standing pursuit of quality and service to our clients, respect and dignity in the workplace and commitment to making Weil a place where people can have a well balanced life while they build their careers."
Robert Carangelo, Partner and Chair of Weil's Hiring Committee, added: "Achieving a top ten ranking in all three of these categories in the 2012 Vault rankings is a proud accomplishment. Weil is focused on making the Firm a great place to work and one that supports a truly diverse working environment while doing our best for our clients; it is nice to see that our efforts are continuing to make an impact."
In the Best Law Firms to Work For list, associates were asked to rate their firm on a 1-to-10 scale for several quality-of-life categories. Weil associates were overall "extremely satisfied" with their work environment and commended the firm's training programs (formal/informal), compensation level, and business outlook.
In the diversity ranking, Weil moved up nine spots from 14th to 5th. The firm also secured a spot in the top ten across several categories related to diversity of women (#6), minorities (#4), and gays and lesbians (#9).
"Weil has a deep and long-standing commitment to diversity and inclusion across our worldwide offices," commented Andrea Bernstein, Partner and Chair of Weil's Diversity Committee. "We are gratified to be recognized by Vault for our achievements in this area."
In addition to placing in the top ten in three of Vault's main law firm rankings, Weil is ranked as the #1 firm in the Practice Area rankings for its Bankruptcy work. The firm also moved up nine spots to place #8 for Class Actions. Weil is ranked within the top ten in the following practice areas: Antitrust (#10); Securities Litigation (#10); General Corporate (#9); Tax (#9); Class Actions (#8); Securities (#8); M&A (#8); Private Equity (#8); and Bankruptcy (#1). To determine the Practice Area rankings, associates were able to vote for up to three firms in their own practice area, but were not permitted to vote for their own firm.
Weil also placed in the top ten for Best Law Firms by Region, including Miami (#3), Texas (#5), New York City (#8) and Northern California (#9). Rankings by region were based on surveys completed by industry peers.
