Weil, Gotshal & Manges' Washington
DC office will be hosting the Women's Bar Association of the District of
Columbia's (WBA) Diversity Forum event on November 8, 2006 entitled Breaking
Common Barriers. The Diversity Forum's inaugural program, Breaking Common
Barriers, will focus on the advancement, retention, and the minority experience
for women in today's law firms by comparing the 2006 ABA Study "Visible
Invisibility: Women of Color in Law Firms" and the 2006 WBA Study,
which several Weil Gotshal attorneys participated in, "Creating Pathways
to Success: Advancing and Retaining Women in Today's Law Firms." The
program is being co-sponsored by The Greater Washington Area Chapter, Women
Lawyers Division of the National Bar Association; The Hispanic Bar Association,
Washington DC, and The Women's Forum of the Asian Pacific American Bar
Association of the Greater Washington, DC Area.
The event boasts a stellar moderator, Karen Lockwood, immediate past president
of the WBA, originator of the WBA's Creating Pathways to Success Study
and partner at Howrey LLP; and a panel including Gaela Gehring Flores,
partner at Winston & Strawn LLP; Pamela J. Roberts, Chair of the ABA
Commission on Women, partner at Nelson Mullins Riley and Scarborough; Grace
Speights, partner at Morgan Lewis LLP and Kimberly Tan Majure, partner
at Miller & Chevalier LLP. All of the women have worked worked tirelessly
to promote the success of women lawyers in firms.
