Mona Al-Sharmani is a senior associate in the firm's Corporate Department in New York. She has a broad corporate practice with a concentration in finance, including leveraged and cross-border secured lending.

Ms. Al-Sharmani’s practice includes representing financial institutions and corporate borrowers in connection with acquisition finance transactions and investment grade, cash-flow and asset-based syndicated loans (including first and second lien loans). Recent matters led by Ms. Al-Sharmani include the representation of lead arrangers and sponsors for secured credit facilities for Barneys New York (acquisition by Istithmar PJSC), Goodman Global Inc. (acquisition by Hellman & Friedman LLC) and Transelec, S.A. (acquisition by Brookfield Asset Management).

Ms. Al-Sharmani received an LLM with a concentration in International Finance from Harvard Law School in 2001, as well as a PhD from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in 2000. In addition, she holds an LLB from Cairo University in 1989.

Ms. Al-Sharmani has been selected to participate in Stakeholder 100 program in 2007 which recognizes a pool of top performing associates of color working at law firms in the United States.

Ms. Al-Sharmani co-authored an article in 2003 entitled: "Dispute Settlement at ICSID: Requirements Ratione Personae" published by the Project on Dispute Settlement in International Trade, Investment and Intellectual Property of UNCTAD. She also presented a paper on Protection of Foreign Property under Domestic Laws at the Sixth Investment Treaty Forum on Expropriation in Investment Treaty Law of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law in London in 2006.

Ms. Al-Sharmani is a member of the American Bar Association and is admitted to practice in the State of New York. She is also a member of the Arab Bankers Association of North America. She is fluent in English, Arabic and Somali.
