Matthew Bloch is co-head of the firm's Capital Markets practice. He has extensive experience representing underwriters and issuers in a wide variety of securities offerings. Recently, he represented General Growth Properties, a leading real estate owner and operator of regional malls, in its historic $2.3 billion equity offering to fund its emergence from bankruptcy, one of the largest ever equity offerings by a REIT and the only such offering effectively undertaken while the issuer was in Chapter 11. He also represented Providence Equity Partners in the $8.5 billion high yield debt financing for its bid for the Canadian telecoms operator BCE which, had it been completed, would have ranked as the largest leveraged buyout in history.
Mr. Bloch's institutional experience includes representations of Citi, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Barclays and JP Morgan in numerous high-yield and investment grade debt and equity offerings for companies such as Allison Transmission, Aviall, Danaher, DENTSPLY, Lear Corporation, Tenet Healthcare and US Concrete. He also serves as designated underwriter counsel for frequent issuers like AMC Entertainment. On the issuer side, Mr. Bloch has completed initial public offerings and NYSE listings for companies as diverse as Generac, a manufacturer of home and industrial generators, and WellChoice, an health insurer, as well as having represented Netia Holdings S.A., a Polish telecommunications provider, in a series of high-yield financings and its IPO and Nasdaq listing, which was the first ever for a Polish company. He has also represented The Estee Lauder Companies, DirecTV and Willis Group in multiple debt and equity offerings and tender and exchange offers.
Mr. Bloch has experience in overseas public and private acquisitions and related financings, having been resident in the firm’s Budapest office for over two years. In addition, until recently, Mr. Bloch was chairman of the firm's Professional Development Committee and he continues to devote a substantial amount of time to training and mentoring junior lawyers.
Mr. Bloch graduated from Brandeis University (BA, 1977) and Boston University School of Law (JD, 1984), both magna cum laude. He also served as a note and case editor of the Boston University Law Review.
