John Brockland is a partner in the Technology and Intellectual Property Transactions practice group in Weil’s Silicon Valley office, where his practice focuses on the intellectual property aspects of strategic and commercial transactions involving the development, transfer and licensing of technology assets, as well as the provision of technology-related services. He has represented companies ranging from start-ups to large multinationals in a variety of industries, such as software, semiconductor, Internet, renewable energy and healthcare.
Mr. Brockland’s practice includes drafting, negotiating and counseling on a broad variety of transactions, including joint development, licensing, distribution, and reseller agreements for hardware, software, semiconductors, and related intellectual property, as well as electronic commerce and Internet services agreements. Mr. Brockland also regularly oversees significant IP and commercial due diligence investigations in the context of acquisitions of technology-focused companies and prepares and negotiates IP and technology agreements in spin-outs and other acquisition transactions. He regularly advises on information technology and business process outsourcing arrangements. He also has many years of experience advising clients on issues related to open-source licensing models. Mr. Brockland is a frequent speaker and trainer on technology, intellectual property, and commercial law topics.
