Jason Billeck is a partner in Weil’s Litigation Department and a member of the firm’s Complex Commercial Litigation practice group. Mr. Billeck’s practice is concentrated in the areas of complex commercial litigation and bankruptcy litigation, where he has represented several of the world’s leading companies in their most complex legal matters. Mr. Billeck has significant trial experience, including serving as trial counsel in multiple litigations.
Mr. Billeck’s expertise spans a broad spectrum of business litigation disciplines, including breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, insurance claims, fraud, negligence, consumer complaints, and shareholder claims. He has litigated these matters in federal and state courts and before arbitration panels across the country. Additionally, Mr. Billeck has extensive bankruptcy litigation experience in multiple prominent adversary proceedings, contested matters, and confirmation proceedings for entities such as Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, WorldCom, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Global Crossing, and Loral Space and Communications. Mr. Billeck also has successfully and efficiently represented and advised clients in resolving their complex business disputes without the expense or necessity of litigation or arbitration.
Mr. Billeck’s commercial litigation experience has involved representing sophisticated clients involved in wide-ranging industries. These include substantial litigations for energy companies such as Anadarko Petroleum Company, BJ Services Company, Diamond Offshore Drilling, Inkia Energy, and PG&E; financial entities such as Citigroup, Man Financial, U.S. Trust Company of New York, and Texas Capital Bank; communications and technology companies such as WorldCom, Verizon, Global Crossing, and Loral Space and Communication; insurance companies including United HealthCare and Penn Treaty; and manufacturing companies such as Intier Closures of America Inc. and Grupo Petrotemex, S.A. de C.V.
Mr. Billeck has served as counsel for both plaintiffs and defendants. As counsel for plaintiffs, he has recovered millions of dollars for his clients. As counsel for defendants, he has obtained summary judgment and dismissals of claims for companies such as U.S. Trust Company N.A., WorldCom, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, and Intier Closures of America Inc. Mr. Billeck also has achieved settlements for pennies on the dollar of the damages sought against his clients.
Mr. Billeck has been selected multiple times by his peers as a “Texas Rising Star,” recognizing the top attorneys in Texas under the age of 40, by Super Lawyers. Mr. Billeck currently serves as the hiring partner in the firm’s Houston office.
Mr. Billeck earned his J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center in 1997 where he graduated magna cum laude, Order of the Coif, and served as a member of the Houston Journal of International Law. He graduated in 1994 from Texas Christian University with a BBA in finance.
