James Cole is a partner in the London office responsible for the Capital Markets group and the office's Hedge Fund practice.
He advises on capital raisings of debt, equity and equity-linked instruments in Central, Eastern and Western Europe, Scandinavia, and the Middle East, acting for issuers and underwriters. His clients include Citibank, Deutsche Bank, and Credit Suisse as underwriters, and a range of sponsors and corporate issuers.
James' equity capital markets experience includes IPOs and secondary offerings, including SPACs and funds. His debt capital markets experience includes emerging market and high-yield bonds. Most recently he has been involved in Chr Hansen's €742m Copenhagen Stock Exchange listed IPO, General Motors' $27bn exchange offer, and bond offerings by CEZ and the UK charity, Scope. James has also advised creditors on a variety of distressed situations and hedge funds on a variety of liquid and illiquid investment opportunities.
He has published a number of articles in the International Financial Law Review, including "How to Conduct US Style Exchange Offers in Europe," "The OFR: US disclosure tips for UK corporates," and "Helikos v Horizon," a comparison of cash shell and SPAC acquisition vehicles. James’ transactions have been nominated for IFLR Equity Deal of the Year (for the IPO of Germany 1 Acquisition Limited) and the Legal Business CSR Programme of the Year (for the Scope Bond Programme).
He was named a "leading individual" for equity capital markets in Chambers UK for 2012 and a "recognized" lawyer for debt capital markets in PLC Which Lawyer? Yearbook 2011.
