Elizabeth M. Velez

Elizabeth Velez is an associate in the Litigation Department of Weil, Gotshal & Manges’ Miami office and is a member of the firm’s Complex Commercial Litigation practice group.

Ms. Velez has significant litigation experience in the defense of class actions and multidistrict litigations, and has worked on a broad range of commercial disputes involving areas of law such as antitrust, bankruptcy, business torts, civil RICO, contracts, ERISA, health insurance, and unfair and deceptive trade practices. She has represented clients including UnitedHealth Group, Ingenix, and Lehman Brothers, and is intimately involved in all aspects of her cases, ranging from discovery and dispositive motions to litigation.

Throughout her career, Ms. Velez has participated in various not-for-profit organizations, including Legal Aid’s Small Claims Clinic, the Dade Bar Legalline, and Catalyst Miami. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the Florida Bar, and the Dade County Bar Association.

Ms. Velez received a JD from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she was a senior editor of the Journal of Constitutional Law, served as a teaching assistant, and was president of Penn’s Latin American Law Students Association. Prior to law school, Ms. Velez attended the University of Pennsylvania, where she received a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics and Spanish, cum laude, in 2005.

Ms. Velez is fluent in Spanish.
