(March 31, 2009, Weil Gotshal News)
NEW YORK (March 31, 2009) – American Lawyer Media has announced that Weil, Gotshal & Manges bankruptcy partners
Harvey Miller and
Marcia Goldstein have been recognized with 2009 Dealmaker of the Year awards from
The American Lawyer magazine. The highly sought after distinction is awarded to select attorneys who demonstrate excellence in managing groundbreaking or industry-changing deals. As expected, many of the 25 award-winning lawyers were recognized for their work on transactions and representations resulting from the ongoing financial crisis.
Mr. Miller, a senior partner in Weil Gotshal’s Business Finance & Restructuring Department and noted recently by the
New York Times as "the dean of the bankruptcy bar," received third place overall on the Dealmaker list for his role in the $613 billion Lehman Brothers bankruptcy, the largest bankruptcy filing in history.
Ms. Goldstein, who heads up the firm’s Business Finance & Restructuring Department, also placed among the 25 Dealmakers and was cited specifically for her leadership role on cases at the epicenter of the financial crisis, including the Chapter 11 filing of Washington Mutual, the restructuring of AIG, and the global insolvency of Kaupthing Bank hf. In sum, the department she leads filed 13 major Chapter 11 cases in 2008, the most of any major US law firm.
In the December 2008 issue of
The American Lawyer, Mr. Miller and a cross-disciplinary team of Weil Gotshal corporate and restructuring attorneys were featured in a cover story that recounted how Weil Gotshal put together the Lehman bankruptcy in record time, including the key divestiture of Lehman’s US investment banking business, a transaction that saved thousands of jobs and potentially hundreds of millions of dollars in corporate value.
