NEW YORK (July 2, 2009) – International law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges announced today that partner Richard J. Davis has been appointed to the New York City Campaign Finance Board by City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn. Mr. Davis will complete the remainder of a five-year term which began on April 1, 2009 and ends on March 31, 2014, replacing Dale Christensen, Jr.
Mr. Davis previously served as assistant secretary of the Treasury (enforcement and operations), where he supervised the US Customs Service, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the US Secret Service, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
Mr. Davis was a member of the Watergate Special Prosecution Force where, as an assistant special prosecutor, he served as chief trial counsel in the trials of Dwight Chapin and Edward Reinecke, and was chief of the Political Espionage and ITT Task Forces. He was also a member of the Criminal Division of the US Attorney’s Office (Southern District of New York), where he served in the Corruption Unit and as Assistant Chief Appellate Attorney.
