As the first office of Weil to open outside of New York, the Washington, DC office has become critical to the firm's role as counsel and advisors on regulatory issues to businesses. With the White House around the corner and the U.S. Capitol building in view, many of our matters pose complex legal challenges that are often intertwined with major public policy issues.
The Washington office, with 75 lawyers, first opened in 1975 with only two lawyers. Today, attorneys in the DC office practice in a wide variety of substantive areas. Recent law school graduates are most likely to practice in one of the following areas: complex civil litigation, product liability and mass tort, international trade law and policy, antitrust counseling and litigation, intellectual property litigation, or bankruptcy. In addition to these practice areas, the Washington office has a number of smaller, more highly specialized practice groups, including environmental law, international and domestic private equity, technology law and policy, international and domestic tax, public policy, and consumer financial services. The firm's overall "one-firm" philosophy to the practice of law allows Washington attorneys to work on matters firm-wide, across offices, departments and practice groups.
