Sonal Mehta
Litigation/Regulatory: Patent Litigation
Silicon Valley
J.D. Boalt Hall School of Law, 2002
Sonal began her practice at Weil’s Silicon Valley office and then left for a year-long federal appellate clerkship. She credits the firm with actively helping her secure the clerkship and supporting her decision to take time away. Following her clerkship, Sonal returned to the Silicon Valley office.
There’s a sense throughout the firm that we are one big team. People pitch in to help each other and view the team’s successes as their successes. They want to work for the success of the institution, not just themselves. Even when we work with people from different offices, it’s the same as if they were in the office next door. It’s all about being part of the Weil team.
The emphasis here is on contribution, not hierarchy. At team meetings everyone from the most junior associate to the most senior partner is encouraged to contribute. I was assigned to a trial a couple of years ago and just being in the war room with the team was great. I worked very closely with a partner in developing the case from the ground up, and I had the opportunity to stand up and argue evidentiary issues in court.
I really appreciate the mentorship of the people who I work with here, not just in this office but throughout the firm. There are a number of people who have taken an interest in my development as a lawyer. They guide me when I have questions, take time to explain to me how things should be done and talk with me about case strategies. I feel lucky to have found a team of people who are incredibly passionate about their work and each other, and who know how to have a good time while working hard. I enjoy coming to work every day, and that’s rare.
