Lindsay enjoyed working on a wide variety of deals in the corporate department in Dallas. She was thrilled to be given the opportunity to help open the firm’s Hong Kong office in 2007.
Weil is responsive to associates’ thoughts and ideas – it’s impressive just how much consideration is given to our opinions and our development. There are associates on the compensation committee and there is also an associates committee – and in each case the partners take our concerns and suggestions seriously. The attitude here is that we’re all on a team and we’re all here to get the job done.
Many things have helped me grow as a lawyer while at Weil. First, since I can ask any person in any of Weil’s global offices a question, I have immediate access to all of the firm’s knowledge. Second, I have received (and am still receiving) great training. Third, Weil really supports what is important to me. For example, when I wanted to take part in the Lend-A-Lawyer program in Dallas, the firm committed to completely rolling me off of my deals for three months so I could work full time for Legal Aid of Northwest Texas. And when I expressed interest in going to Hong Kong to help with the firm’s new office, everyone was very cooperative and encouraging.
I have never felt that I was being pigeonholed into one specific corporate practice area. I’ve worked on big LBOs, a variety of public and private company acquisitions and dispositions, an IPO, an exchange offer, general corporate counseling and even a few financing transactions. Because of that experience, I’ve come to understand the various aspects of a transaction and I can look ahead to anticipate certain issues with a broader view of the transaction. I think the partners at Weil really encourage you to take the initiative and tell them what kind of work you want to do and then, most importantly, are supportive in making that happen.
