Andrea C. Saavedra is a senior associate in the firm’s Business Finance & Restructuring Department.
Ms. Saavedra’s practice focuses on debtors, creditors, and equity holders in all areas of domestic and international restructurings and crisis management, both in and out of court. She has been involved in representing Patriot Coal Corporation (new money DIP lenders), Blockbuster, Inc. (debtor), General Growth Properties (debtor), Lehman Commercial Paper (secured creditor in the Hawaiian Telcom chapter 11), Washington Mutual Inc. (debtor), Federación Nacional de Cafeteros and Valorem S.A. (equity in the Avianca chapter 11 cases), and The Sharper Image (debtor). Ms. Saavedra also represents, on a pro bono basis, organizations that assist victims of domestic violence and their families. In 2009, Ms. Saavedra was the lead associate of a Weil team honored by Sanctuary for Families with its “Above & Beyond” award for successfully reuniting a mother and her two children across international borders. She is also an active member of the firm’s pro bono housing team, and is presently assisting victims of Hurricane Sandy with FEMA-related relief.
Ms. Saavedra served as a teaching assistant to Harvey R. Miller’s Corporate Reorganization course at Columbia Law School. She is a member of Women@Weil and Latinos@Weil, and a founding member of Mothers@Weil. She is also an active contributor to the Weil Bankruptcy Blog. A 2006 graduate of Columbia Law School, Ms. Saavedra was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, an articles editor for the Columbia Journal of Gender and Law, and was selected in her third year to serve as an extern for the Honorable Judge Sonia M. Sotomayor, then of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
