Tim DeMasi, a partner in the New York office, specializes in patent litigation in the federal courts and before the United States International Trade Commission. He has successfully represented both well-established and emerging technology companies, such as ABC, Agilent Technologies, ArthroCare, ATMI, Broadcom, CBS, C.R. Bard, Dell, Expedia, Hewlett-Packard, Hoffman-La Roche, Intel, Microsoft, NBC Universal and Samsung.
Mr. DeMasi has litigated cases in a variety of electrical and computer technologies, including digital communications, computer networking, computer architectures, computer graphics, software application and Web site development, operating systems, Internet business methods, TV and video display, light-emitting diodes, lasers, DRAMs, Flash, and semiconductor manufacturing. He also has extensive experience with medical devices, including surgical fasteners, electrosurgical devices, and coronary stents.
Mr. DeMasi currently co-teaches Patent Litigation and Intellectual Property Legal Practice Workshop at Columbia Law School. He has written articles on a number of topics, some of which have been cited and relied upon by federal courts and treatises.
Mr. DeMasi has also had an active pro bono practice, including cases with Advocates for Children, The Innocence Project, and the List Project.
Mr. DeMasi received an LL.M., with merit, in 1996 from the London School of Economics. The focus of his LL.M. was international litigation and arbitration arising under the laws of the United States, England and the European Community. Mr. DeMasi received a J.D., cum laude, in 1991 from the University of Notre Dame Law School, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1988 from Lafayette College.
