Melissa Colón-Bosolet is an associate in the Litigation Department of Weil's New York office specializing in various forms of complex commercial litigation in federal and state courts. She has represented clients in a broad range of industries, including financial services, technology, media and entertainment, pharmaceuticals, and transportation. The types of litigations and counseling matters Ms. Colón-Bosolet has been involved in include class actions, bankruptcy, securities, contracts, fraud, fiduciary duties, as well as internal and government investigations. She was part of the team that represented Vivendi in In re Vivendi Universal, S.A. Securities Litigation, the largest shareholder class action ever to go to trial. Ms. Colón-Bosolet was also part of the team that represented NPR in its internal review into the termination of Juan Williams.
Ms. Colón-Bosolet is a member of Weil's Class Action Taskforce. She is also actively involved in diversity initiatives serving as an officer of Latinos@Weil, the firm’s Hispanic affinity group and a member of the New York Women@Weil Planning Committee.
Ms. Colón-Bosolet has been recognized for her pro bono contribution to protect prisoners from violence and physical abuse. She managed a team assisting the Prisoners’ Rights Project to stave off likely action by New York City to terminate the class action injunction, obtained in Fisher v. Koehler, which requires measures to reduce inmate-inmate and staff-inmate violence at the Erick M. Taylor Center on Rikers Island. She worked on all aspects of trial preparation, including the creation of a database for the voluminous records of violent incidents.
Ms. Colón-Bosolet is also active in various bar associations. She is a member of the Commercial and Business Litigation Committee where she serves as Co-Chair of the Young Lawyers Subcommittee. Ms. Colón-Bosolet is also a member of the Hispanic National Bar Association and the National Association of Women Lawyers.
Ms. Colón-Bosolet joined the firm as a summer associate in 2006. From 2009-2010, she served as Law Clerk for the Honorable George B. Daniels, U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York. Ms. Colón-Bosolet received her J.D. from Cornell Law School in 2007, where was she was Managing Editor of the Cornell Legal Information Institute and Note Editor for the Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy. She graduated from Hunter College in 2003 with a B.A. in Political Science.
Ms. Colón-Bosolet is fluent in Spanish.
