Jennifer Nelsen is an associate in the Complex Commercial Litigation group of Weil, Gotshal & Manges in Houston. Ms. Nelsen has handled a wide range of business litigation issues, including derivatives, bankruptcy, securities, and employment litigation.
Ms. Nelsen represents clients in a variety of industries, including energy, financial products, and telecommunications. Notable clients have included Kinder Morgan, Lehman Brothers, and Verizon. Ms. Nelsen is also committed to providing quality pro bono services, working with organizations such as the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program and Tahirih Justice Center to provide legal services to those in need in the Houston community. In addition, she has served on the Houston Election Protection Leadership Committee for the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and as a volunteer prosecutor at the City of Houston Municipal Courts, where she obtained first-chair trial experience in Class C misdemeanor cases.
Actively involved with some of Houston’s leading non-profit organizations, Ms. Nelsen has been a Law Firm Initiative Young Lawyers Co-Chair for the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 United Way of Greater Houston capital campaigns, serves on the Houston Advisory Council for Tahirih Justice Center, and is on the Board of Directors for the Hana and Arthur Ginzbarg Nature Discovery Center. Professionally, she is a member of the Communities in Schools Committee and a past member of the Lawyers for Literacy Committee of the Houston Bar Association.
Ms. Nelsen graduated from Washington and Lee University with a degree in European History. She is a cum laude graduate of New York Law School. Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Nelsen served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Melinda Harmon, United States District Judge for the Southern District of Texas. Ms. Nelsen is licensed to practice law in Connecticut, New York, and Texas.
