David R. Singh is a senior associate in the Litigation Department of Weil’s New York office, where his practice focuses on various forms of complex litigation, including breach of contract, alleged violations of state deceptive trade practice acts, fraud, and product liability cases, and also on transactional risk assessment. Mr. Singh has represented clients in a broad range of industries, including investment banking, energy, high-performance fiber, health care, insurance and long-term care, media and entertainment, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, commercial real estate, and transportation.

Mr. Singh has significant experience defending major US and foreign corporations in federal and state courts throughout the United States, at both the trial court and appellate levels, with a particular emphasis on complex class actions and multidistrict litigation. He serves on Weil’s Class Action Taskforce, is the Associate Editor of Weil’s Class Action Monitor, and his recent notable work includes playing a lead role on a team representing ExxonMobil in In re: Motor Fuel Temperature Sales Practices Litigation, a multidistrict litigation involving more than 30 putative class actions alleging that retailers of gasoline and diesel fuel should have adjusted the size or cost of gallons of fuel sold to account for thermal expansion.

Mr. Singh is actively involved in a number of diversity initiatives. In 2003, he co-founded AsianAttorneys@Weil, Weil’s Asian attorney affinity group, and he currently serves as chair of this group. He also serves on Weil’s Diversity Planning Committee. Mr. Singh was selected as a 2012 Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (“LCLD”) Fellow.

Mr. Singh also is actively involved in the American Bar Association (ABA). He is currently a Vice-Chair of the Corporate Counsel Committee and a Member of the Section of Litigation Communications Committee. He has previously served as a Member of the Section of Litigation Content Management Committee, as the chair of the Business Torts Evidence Subcommittee and the Trial Practices Membership and Diversity Subcommittees, and as the lead editor of the Corporate Counsel Committee’s website. Mr. Singh received the ABA Section of Litigation’s Outstanding Subcommittee Chair Award in 2011 and served as co-chair of the 2012 Committee on Corporate Counsel meeting in Carlsbad, California. He has chaired and moderated programs on how to prepare for and defend corporate representative depositions and how to maximize value from expert witnesses in bet-the-company litigation.

Mr. Singh also is active in non-profit organizations. He serves on the Leadership Advisory Boards of the Council of Urban Professionals and the National Forensic League. He also maintains an active pro bono practice, having recently worked on, among other matters, human rights issues in a successful asylum representation.

Mr. Singh received his B.A. from the University of Minnesota, where he double majored in political science and speech communication and graduated summa cum laude. He received his J.D. with honors from Cornell Law School. While at Cornell Law School, he served as a Note Editor of the Cornell Law Review.
